Success Story: Significant Sales Tax Refund for Not-for-Profit

As we truly partner with our clients, we work hard to provide solutions beyond the obvious and the ordinary. This happens by working with our clients closely to identify areas of opportunity and improved business strategies. Some solutions are quick and easy, and others require us to roll up our sleeves to find the right solution for our client and their unique situation.

Situation Overview

A local non-profit realized they had overpaid sales tax. They had overpaid sales tax by $150,000 for marketplace taxes remitted by their related marketplace entity.

Solution Provided

The marketplace overpayment was identified by their Vice President of Finance.  After review by Tronconi Segarra & Associates, we identified an additional $250,000 in reporting errors. Tronconi Segarra & Associates then prepared and filed 12 amended sales tax returns and simplified the return process for them.

Business Impact

This non-profit will receive approximately $400,000 in a sales tax refund.
